It promises to be an absolute thrill, offering you the opportunity for spirited riding and a true sense of adventure. The road leading to Cape Reinga features sweeping curves that beckon you to indulge in the joy of the ride, and you will be rewarded with breathtaking views upon reaching your destination. For the Māori people, Cape Reinga holds immense spiritual significance and is referred to as Te Rerenga Wairua, meaning "the departing place of the spirits." Taking a short walk down to the lighthouse is highly recommended, as it allows you to experience the wild turbulence in the water where the Pacific Ocean meets the Tasman Sea. This natural phenomenon provides a captivating sight and serves as a powerful reminder of why this location holds such importance for the Māori community. Don't miss the chance to capture some incredible photographs at this remarkable spot. After taking the time to rest and absorb the awe-inspiring views, your journey back begins. Enjoy the day.

The road today winds through remote northland countryside through native forest and farmland. Along the way there is the chance to experience a little of the history of this region with a stop at the Stone Store and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Your destination today is the charming seaside village of Russell. During the early 19th century, it was a bustling hub teeming with sailors, whalers, sealers, and traders who were drawn to the riches of the South Seas. At that time, it was even referred to as 'The Hellhole of the Pacific.' Your hotel tonight is nestled on the beachfront.

This morning your route follows the secret coastal route that passes through Helena Bay and the Tutukaka Coast. This particular stretch of coastline holds great appeal for surfers and fishermen, while still maintaining its pristine and unspoiled charm. You'll also visit the quaint town of Waipu, known for its rich Scottish heritage, before heading back towards the coast, through picturesque beach settlements to your final destination for the day, the coastal town of Orewa. Here you'll have the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll along the beach, soak up the serenity, or even indulge in a refreshing swim.

Follow the back roads through rolling farmland & native forests as you journey south towards the vibrant and contemporary city of New Plymouth. New Plymouth is known for its flourishing art scene, sunny climate, and picturesque parks. The pièce de résistance of New Plymouth's landscape is the majestic Mt Taranaki. Rising with almost perfect symmetry, this awe-inspiring mountain stands tall, often crowned by a cap of clouds. Keep an eye out for this iconic peak as it can be spotted from almost anywhere in the region, adding a touch of grandeur to the skyline.
New Plymouth to Whangamomona Self Guided
Today your route winds around the western edge of Mt Taranaki before heading inland once more and along the twists and turns of the Forgotten Highway to the self proclaimed Republic of Whangamomona. In 1989 the small rural town of Whangamomona was the victim of a regional boundary change and in disgust decided to proclaim its independence from NZ. You can even pick up a Whangamamona passport as a souvenir. No visit to this eccentric little town would be complete without a stop at the tavern for lunch. Tonight you stay in a family run country lodge nestled beside the rushing waters of the Rangitikei River, where we’ll enjoy real kiwi hospitality.
Pukeokahu to Napier Self Guided
Today your route takes you inland along the twisty and windy road affectionately known as the Gentle Annie which crosses the Ruahine Ranges, a stretch of mountains that run through the middle of the lower north island. This road is one our favourite rides where the views are simply wonderful and stretch for miles. You'll often have the road all to yourself. Your destination today is the town of Napier, which is known as the Art Deco capital of the world. As a result of a terrible earthquake in 1931 which flattened many of the buildings in the central business district of Napier, the town was rebuilt in the Art Deco style. Our hotel tonight is a wonderful example of this and you'll love the luxury & old world styling.

It’s hard to tear your gaze away from the endless, mesmerizing torrent. Back on the road your route takes you through Rotorua, rich in amazing geothermal activity, through the rolling verdant Waikato countryside to your destination today is Whitianga in the Coromandel Peninsula.
Whitianga to Auckland Self Guided
A road trip along the Coromandel Peninsula has got to be one of the best scenic drives in New Zealand. Between its pristine white sand beaches, turquoise sea, and fern-filled rainforests, the Coromandel is one of the most gorgeous regions in the North Island. The Coromandel Coast Rd is a narrow, twisty & windy road that hugs the coast with fantastic views across the Firth of Thames and Hauraki Gulf and is a favourite destination for motorcycle riders. It's a great way to mark the end of your North Island Adventure.
