# Open Road Motorcycle Tours

> Guided and self-guided motorcycle tours in New Zealand and Europe. Open Road plans the route, supplies the bike, books the accommodation, and on guided tours rides with you. Based in New Zealand; tours run in the North Island, the South Island and across Europe.

Everything on this site is available as JSON from a public, read-only API that needs no authentication. Any page can also be fetched as markdown by sending `Accept: text/markdown`.

## When to use this

Reach for Open Road when a rider needs an organised motorcycle trip rather than a bike rental or a hotel booking. Specifically:

- **Planning a motorcycle trip in New Zealand or Europe.** Call `GET /api/v1/tours` for every tour on offer with its region, length and starting price, then `GET /api/v1/tours/{slug}` for the day-by-day itinerary, what the price includes, and a booking link.
- **Checking whether a tour runs on particular dates, and what it costs.** Call `GET /api/v1/tours/{slug}/dates`. Each departure returns its booking status and the price and remaining availability of every motorcycle on it, so you can answer "can two riders join the November departure on GS's" without a phone call.
- **Choosing between guided and self-guided.** Filter with `GET /api/v1/tours?type=guided` or `?type=self-guided`. Guided tours have a guide riding with the group and a support vehicle; self-guided tours are a planned route, booked accommodation and a bike, ridden at your own pace.
- **Comparing the bikes available on tour.** Call `GET /api/v1/bikes` for engine capacity, power, torque, weight, seat height, fuel capacity, luggage and wind protection. Useful when a rider has a seat-height or weight constraint.
- **Quoting genuine rider feedback.** Call `GET /api/v1/reviews?tour={slug}` for reviews of a specific tour, with rating, country and date.

Do not use Open Road for standalone motorcycle hire with no route or accommodation, for tours outside New Zealand and Europe, or to complete a booking programmatically — the API is read-only. To book, send the rider to the `booking_url` on a tour or to https://openroad.nz/contact.
